How It Started

Andre Cole spent twelve years cutting downtown before he took the lease on a narrow brick unit that had been a print shop, a bike repair, and briefly a taco window. He gutted it over a summer with his brother-in-law, kept the brick, kept the tile, and put in three chairs bought at auction out in Riverside.

The idea was not complicated. Cut hair properly, charge a fair price, open the door at nine and let people walk in. No membership, no app, no fifteen-minute assembly line. If the wait is twenty minutes, we tell you it is twenty minutes.

A decade on, the same three chairs sit in the same three spots. The clippers have been replaced a dozen times over. Most of the people in them on a Saturday morning have been coming since the first year, and a fair few now bring their kids.

“We are not trying to be the fanciest shop in town. We are trying to be the one you never have to think about.”

Andre Cole, Owner

The Short Version

2014 — 2024

  1. 2014

    Doors open

Two chairs, one barber, and a hand-painted sign that is still hanging over the door.

  2. 2017

    Third chair goes in

Marisol joins and the shop starts running six days a week instead of four.

  3. 2020

    The shave menu

Hot towel straight razor work becomes a standing service rather than a favour for regulars.

  4. 2024

    Ten years on 4th

Same brick, same tile, same policy on walk-ins. New floor, finally.

The Walk-In Policy

This is the part most shops have quietly dropped. We have not.

01 No appointment needed
Walk in any hour we are open. Chairs are first come, first served, and the list is a clipboard by the door.
02 Booking only skips the wait
Reserving ahead does not get you a better cut. It gets you a time, which on a Saturday is worth something.
03 Ask for a barber, or don't
Request whoever you like. If they are busy and you are not fussed, the next free chair is usually quicker.
04 Quiet is fine
Nobody here needs to know about your holiday plans. Say the word and the chair goes silent.

The door is open

Come in during opening hours and take the next chair, or hold a time on Square.
